Eliminator® H-Type® Precleaner

Tip: Modifying the X & Y specs to work around conveyor structure obstructions.

Problem: You are ready to install the precleaner. You've done your homework, spec'd the correct cleaner for the application, and determined the right blade size for the head pulley. As you are laying out the X & Y coordinates, you find that an obstruction on the conveyor won't let you position the pole in the proper location (Fig. 1). Looking closer, you see that if you could make a simple adjustment, moving the pole either up or down or to one side or the other, the cleaner could go in with no problem. Looks easy, but how do you adjust the X & Y's to correctly locate the pole?

Solution: One solution is to call the BCP Hotline and have an engineer give you the new coordinates. But that's not always convenient when you are out on the job. A better solution is to make a simple drawing on the chute wall and solve the problem yourself.

Here's how to do it. With your level, draw a horizontal line about 2' long and put a mark on the left end (Fig. 2). From that mark draw a vertical line straight down about 2' long. Using this drawing, here's an example of how to find a new coordinate.

Example: the dimensions for the install are: X = 7-5/8"; Y = 15-7/8"; C = 17-5/8" and the Gap = 1-3/4". The structure obstruction will not allow the X dimension to be used. But if you could position the pole 2" closer to the head pulley the cleaner could be installed. That means the modified X dimension will need to be 5-5/8". What's your new Y dimension? Starting at the mark where the horizontal and vertical lines meet, measure on the horizontal line 5-5/8" and make an x. Next, use the C dimension (which does not change) to find the missing Y dimension. Place the end of your tape measure on the "x" mark and swing the extended tape down across the vertical line. Make another mark where 17-5/8" intersects with the vertical line. Finally, measure the distance between this mark and the mark at the top of the vertical line. This is your new Y dimension (16-11/16"). Lay out these modified specs and confirm that they work around the obstruction. Now you are ready to install.

Handy Hint: When interference with the Y dimension is the problem, another fix is to use a different size blade. As an example, if the cleaner in question is obstructed by a beam, but 2" lower there is adequate clearance for the install, the option may be to go to a large size blade and move the pole down (Fig. 3). But remember, new X " Y dimensions will be required to ensure the pole is mounted in the correct location.
