Technical Tips Eliminator® H-Type® Precleaner
Tip: New pole design makes it easy to convert to a material-path cleaner.
Problem: An H-Type precleaner has been correctly spec'd for the conveyor belt width. However, at installation you note that the belt's material path is much smaller than the width of the blades. While the cleaner will work in this situation, it means there will be a greater differential of tip wear between the outer blades that are only partially in the material path and the center blades (Fig. 1). This may mean more blade tensioning adjustments will be required during the life of the blades.
Solution: Convert the cleaner to better match the blade width to the material path by removing one blade. This will minimize the tip wear differential and require less maintenance adjustments throughout the life of the blades. This task has been made easier with a new innovation to the H pole. In the past when one blade (and cushion) was removed the pole had to be moved to re-center the remaining blades to the material path (Fig. 2). In some cases the pole was not long enough to do this. And the finished job looked like something was missing. Now the holes have been reconfigured on the plate on top of the pole so a blade can be moved over half a position (Fig. 3). So when a blade is removed the remaining blades can be shifted to re-center them on the belt.
Handy Hint: When spec'ing a precleaner look at the material path. If it is narrower than usual, order the cleaner to meet the customer's needs. For example: if the conveyor has a 42" belt with a 30" material path, you could order a 36" cleaner on a 42" cleaner length pole. This would reduces the number of blades from 5 to 4, giving you 32" of blade coverage on the belt instead of the standard 40" on a 42" cleaner. Then no cleaner blade adjustments are needed on-site during installation. It saves you time and gets the job done right! |
